"Firestarter" by The Prodigy, released in 1996, marked a turning point in the pop-cultural perception of electronic music. The song broke down the boundaries between rave, punk and rock and brought the previously rather subcultural big beat scene right into the mainstream.

Keith Flint's appearance was particularly influential: his aggressive vocals, anarchic styling and provocative physicality stood in stark contrast to the usual pop productions of the 90s. "Firestarter" thus became a projection screen for youthful anger, non-conformism and a general distrust of authority.
