    Following Kate's production assistance on Lionheart and her co-production of Never For Ever with Jon Kelly, The Dreaming was the first album Kate produced on her own.

    The album reached number 3 in the UK album charts and was awarded silver by the British Phonographic Industry.

    The album was initially received with reluctance by critics, but gained in reputation year on year. In 2014, critic Simon Reynolds called The Dreaming a "completely unleashed masterpiece" and "a delirious, head-spinning experience".
