"Speak & Spell" is the debut album of the British synthpop band Depeche Mode. It was released on October 5, 1981 and managed to reach the tenth place in the charts in the UK. It was recorded with the band's original lineup of Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Andy Fletcher and Vince Clarke. Vince Clarke left the band after the release of the album to continue with Yazoo and then with Erasure.
