Like her famous predecessors Alice Coltrane and Dorothy Ashby, Grammy-nominated harpist Brandee Younger combines the shimmeringly beautiful sound of her instrument with the groove and freedom of jazz. For Younger, who has collaborated with Pharaoh Sanders, Lauryn Hill, John Legend, Common, The Roots, and Ravi Coltrane, her third album for Impulse! Records is also her most personal to date. All compositions are her own, and with the tracks, sometimes ballad-like and melodic, sometimes subtly groovy, she describes a year of profound change for her.
